Review : Mandy and The Jungle

Fans and supporters of Santi know that it's been a long time coming - last week his debut album, Mandy & The Jungle, arrived after a succession of singles and visuals that had us anticipating what the Nigerian star had in store for us. In this kaleidoscope of sounds is a depiction of the coming of age of the artist formerly known as Ozzy B. The sixteen rich project is a sublime display of not only Santi's endless bag of vibe-shifting vocals and tricks, but also an insight into the heart and mind of the reigning sweetheart of the alternative scene in Lagos.

Personal favourites "Settle Down" and "Murvlana" are breezy night-ride cuts , while "Turn Down Mami", "Maria", 'RX-64" boast feel-good energy, and "Monte Claire" offers a hazy hip-hop vibe. Mandy and The Jungle also includes the recently released "Sparky" and other personal favourite "Freaky" featuring Bridge and Nonso Amadi. Contributions from Goldlink, DRAM, Tay Iwar and Amaarae are impressive as expected, but what makes this body of work special is what lies at the heart of it's creation, Santi's commitment to his roots and influences.
