IRIN JOURNAL

ìrìn journal, a new African culture and travel magazine has hit the online crowdfunding space in a bid to raise funds for the production of its inaugural issue.   It is a bi-annual print magazine that explores the African culture through travel, people and communities by focusing on “place” and working with locals in each of the cities that it features. Ìrìn journal offers fresh narratives of popular and unknown locations around Africa and its concept is simple; to inform and educate readers, by documenting authentic stories and diverse cultures across the continent.

We’re thrilled to bring a fresh voice in publishing that appeals to everyone who delights in storytelling. Our first issue is all about Lagos, the most populous city in Africa. Lagos is full of character, it’s energetic, complex, it’s everything you want it to be.”

- Mimi Aborowa, Founder of  ìrìn journal

Through a series of engaging storytelling, visuals and conversations that touch on the city, its history, rhythm, people, food and many more, ìrìn journal is focused on portraying Africa and Africans as they are. The good, bad, ugly and beautiful.

There have been many stories told about Africa; these stories are often looking in from the outside. We started ìrìn journal because there is a strong need for the African to document and tell their own stories, from the past and present in the most authentic way possible.  It’s what gives us an identity and helps us to explore what it means to be African in the present. We are creating a magazine with a global appeal that can sit alongside your favourite art/culture/travel magazines; stories that immerse you into life on the continent, one city at a time.”
